Crossfield Keepers

Crossfield’s Keepers represents a wide range of thoughts and ideas designed to cultivate community.  While we are committed to changing the look of our present site from that construction look to a contemplative, scenic, functional retreat, our primary commitment is to make a contribution to the community of Crossfield as a whole.

During 2011 we hope to

Plant 400-500 tree on the south side or our property. On April 30 we will begun to process of preparing our church grounds to receive 400-500 tree from Agriculture Canada’s Shelterbelt Program.  At that time we will add a mixture of straw and compose in an effort to amend the soil for maximum moisture retention and well as a soft soil base for the seedlings (weather and soil conditions permitting).

On Saturday May 7 we will continue the soil preparation for a grassed areanorth of the church (weather and soil conditions permitting)

We recently entered into a partnership with Murdock High Schoolto jointly establish an outdoor classroom.  The onsite activities will include planting saplings, exploring community gardening and composting.  We are looking forward to an ongoing exchange of ideas with the students and staff at the High School here in Crossfield.

We expect our saplings to arrive in mid to late May and have the tree all in on Saturday May 28.  If there is time left over on that date we will continue with renovating the plant materials that are currently at the front of the church

Saturday June 11 is reserved for preparation on the south end of our building.  We need to move some large rocks, dig holes for new trees and shrubs and complete general site preparations.

Saturday July 9 will be our final planting day for this season.

During the summer months we will begin to collect playgroundequipment in preparation for a unique, functional, safe, one of a kind, play area for our kids

Later this fall after all the hard work is done we will be holding a Fall Turkey Dinner and celebration.  Our hope is to raise several hundred dollars towards a community funded project.  We expect to help a single parent, handicapped or senior do a light renovation in their yard.  We will also be looking for corporate and business support to contribute toward these annual projects.

We appreciate the support Mayor Nathan and the Town of Crossfield have shown in these projects.
